Veterinary medicinal products may be imported into Latvia and distributed, which are not included in the Latvian Register of Veterinary Medicinal Products, if the Food and Veterinary Service has issued a permit.

Process description

  1. Service requests
    Veterinary medicinal products may be imported into Latvia and distributed, which are not included in the Latvian Register of Veterinary Medicinal Products, if the PVD has issued one of the following permissions:

    1) a permit for the import and distribution of veterinary medicinal products (except immunological veterinary medicinal products) for the provision of veterinary medical practice
    Authorisation for the distribution of veterinary medicinal products for the provision of veterinary medical practice may be obtained by a wholesaler included in the register of objects subject to the supervision of the PVD in Latvia

    A wholesaler regarding the intention to import and distribute veterinary medicinal products into Latvia:

    - notify the holder of the registration certificate for the veterinary medicinal product concerned or his authorised representative in writing;
    - submit an application to the Food and Veterinary Service for the receipt of a permit for the import and distribution of veterinary medicinal products for the provision of veterinary medical practice

    2) a permit for the importation and use of veterinary medicinal products (except immunological veterinary medicinal products) in exceptional cases.

    The authorisation for the use of veterinary medicinal products may be requested by a wholesaler, importer or veterinary medical practice authority included in the register of objects subject to the supervision of the PVD.

    In order to receive a permit for the use of veterinary medicinal products, the wholesaler, importer or veterinary medical practice authority shall submit a submission to the PVD for the receipt of an authorisation for the import and use of veterinary medicinal products in exceptional cases.

    3) an authorisation for the import and use of immunological veterinary medicinal products (vaccine) in exceptional cases.

    Authorisation for the use of a vaccine may be requested by a wholesaler, importer or veterinary medical practice body included in the register of objects subject to the supervision of the PVD.

    In order to obtain an authorisation for the use of the vaccine, the wholesaler, importer or veterinary medical practice authority shall submit a submission to the PVD for the receipt of an authorisation for the import and use of immunological veterinary medicinal products in exceptional cases.

    An application may also be submitted by e-mail, signed with an e-signature.

    Documents may also be submitted using the institution's e-address.

    Charges per service are specified in the price list (see below).

  2. Service Processing
    The PVD shall evaluate the application and take a decision regarding the issuance of the permit.

  3. Receipt of services
    Receipt of services according to the application of choice.
