BOMCA

Specialists of the Food and Veterinary Service Border Control Department and Latvian Border Guard Service participate in the BOMCA-10 project of the European Union Border Management Programme for Central Asia.

From 27 to 29 May, the Border Control Department of the Food and Veterinary Service is hosting a delegation from Central Asian countries – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The visit is taking place within the framework of the European Union-funded project BOMCA 10 (Border Management Cooperation Programme in Central Asia) and is the final activity of this programme.

The aim of BOMCA 10 is to strengthen capacity and institutional development, promote the development of trade corridors and trade facilitation, and improve border management systems. Experts from the Border Control Department of the Federal Border Guard Service, who worked under Component 3 of the program, were also actively involved in the project. It was implemented by the State Revenue Service, focusing on promoting regional economic integration, including:

  • improving electronic document processing in import, export and transit,
  • developing electronic data exchange systems,
  • improving resource management,
  • training and capacity building of customs, veterinary and phytosanitary personnel.

BOMCA Phase 10 started in 2021 and will end in 2025, and this visit to Latvia is the final event of the project. The delegation will visit the border control points of Pāternieki and the Port of Riga, as well as the Scientific Institute “BIOR” and the National Phytosanitary Laboratory.
